Offering up notes of cherries, dark berries, charcoal and petroleum jelly, the 2021 Ferri?re is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with an impressively round, generous profile for the vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon represents an unusually high proportion (81%) of the blend.

Incorporating fully 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2021 Ferri?re offers up notes of blackberries, licorice and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and rather layered, muscular palate built around powdery tannins and lively acids. Still primary and unevolved, this is a promising effort that should continue to improve with ?levage. Owned by Claire Villars-Lurton, this 18-hectare estate was long rented out to Ch?teau Lascombes. Reconstituted as an independent entity in 1992, fully one-third of the vineyards are over 70 years old, including four hectares of very old vine Merlot that make an important contribution to the blend―even if, in 2021, it's Cabernet Sauvignon that's in the ascendant here, as elsewhere. Farming is certified organic and biodynamic, and the estate's clay-rich gravels and old vines naturally deliver a rich, fleshy, rather powerful but structurally refined style of Margaux.
