The fleshiest, most dramatic wine in the Gar?in-L?veque portfolio is the 2021 Clos l'Eglise, a medium to full-bodied, broad and velvety Pomerol that evokes notions of sweet cherries, berries, plums, raw cocoa and petals. Layered and seamless, it's derived from a 5.98-hectare vineyard opposite Eglise-Clinet that's planted with 80% Merlot, the balance Cabernet Franc.
Located opposite l'Eglise-Clinet, the Gar?in-L?veque's family's Clos l'Eglise amounts to a mere 5.89 hectares, of which one hectare is currently being replanted. Its iron-rich gravely clays are planted with 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and benefit in warm vintages from the cooling influence of the modest rupture in Pomerol's plateau in this sector. Always a rather lavish, creamy wine, Clos l'Eglise has gained in precision in tension in recent years.
